Many people are blessed with perfect vision, where all of the elements of the eye surrounding muscular structure work together to bring the world into the sharpest possible focus at all distances.

The above diagram is Myopia, one of the most common refractive errors. Light focuses in front of the retina instead of on it, resulting in good vision at very close range but blurred vision at distances.

Above is Hyperopia, the opposite of Myopia, where we see well at a distance but have problems up close. People with slight Hyperopia can sometimes see clearly up close, but to do so they must strain sensitive eye muscles, which can cause frequent headaches.

Astigmatism means there is no one point of focus. Unless corrected, Astigmatism results in blurred vision , eyestrain, and headaches, or all three simultaneously.

Contact lenses frequently have distinct advantages over glasses, especially in high prescriptions. When contact lenses are placed on the eye, an increase in peripheral vision results-so you have better vision to the sides. This is important in such activities as driving a car or playing sports.

Additionally, contact lenses result in a larger image size so a near sighted person will see the world larger and more normal than he would wearing glasses.

Contact lenses, especially gas permeable rigid lenses, also offer the ultimate in preventative care. The lenses help control nearsightedness from progressing to higher levels. They can even be used to improve vision through Orthokeratology.
